α-Lipoic Acid (DL-Lipoic Acid) is a pale yellow to yellow crystalline powder, almost odorless or with a slight sulfurous odor. It is soluble in both water and fat, acting as a powerful antioxidant. In vivo, it can be converted to dihydrolipoic acid, which regenerates vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione. Its structure contains a dithiolane ring and a carboxyl group. It is sensitive to light, heat and strong oxidizing agents, so it should be stored sealed, in a cool, dry and dark place.
